The Frontera Project
ENGLISH

THE FRONTERA PROJECT is an interactive, bilingual theater experience created and performed by a company of Mexican and US artists. We use theater, music, movement and play to actively engage the audience in a compassionate, often joyous conversation about life at the US/Mexico Border.

THE FRONTERA PROJECT does not tell one Big Story. Rather, we build a mosaic of many small stories that celebrate the richness and contradictions of Fronterizo life. Specifically focused on Tijuana/San Diego, we explore the varied experiences of people on both sides of the Border – for audiences who may never have been there themselves.

Our Subject is La Frontera. Our Mission is to create the possibility for recognition across difference – of perspective, identity, experience. We want to spark a dialogue about what divides us, and what we share. Making that connection is crossing a border.

Running: 80 minutes

“Undoubtedly, the arts can provide a social safety net in the face of inequity, racism, discrimination, and all other social ailments. I am convinced that a binational, bilingual effort like La Frontera Project is exponentially more powerful and valuable.”
– Ix-Nic Iruegas, Executive Director, Mexican Cultural Institute in DC

“I'm so so happy we are able to bring the Frontera Project here to share your work with folks at (Virginia) Tech.  The company is clearly built on mutual care and respect, as well as love of making great theatre.  You practice what you imagine for our future.  And the play is right on the money - honest, full of great images, truthful stories, and a call for human connectedness.”
– Bob Leonard, Professor of Theater, Virginia Tech
